If you’re longing for the first warm breeze and thinking of putting your house on the market this spring, here are a few tips to get your home prepared for showing to potential buyers.  Trust us - time spent on a few simple tasks will be rewarded in more interest which then leads to a better price.

Here’s a simple checklist to get you started.

Extract your vases

Fresh flowers are such a treat, and now is an excellent time to bring them back into your house. Give your vases a thorough clean and replace any that seem worn. Placing three or four vases filled with fresh flowers in key reception spaces not only looks good but also freshens the air.

Clean doors and windows

You will want to make the most of the spring light, so be sure to clean your windows to create an airier feel in your home.  Dorr frames can also get a bit grubby over winter so give them a wipe down too.

Store away your winter footwear

Clean your winter shoes, then pack the toes gently with newspaper to keep them in shape.

Don't discard shoe boxes after purchase; they make wonderful storage containers.

Stack your winter shoes and boots in the back or top of your cupboard and bring your summer shoes and boots forward.

Touch up exterior paintwork

Flaking paintwork is not what you want a potential buyer to see.  You may be able to get away with some simple sanding and retouching but if the whole exterior is looking shabby and ready for a lick of paint, then get booked in with your preferred decorator, as their order books will be filling up quickly.  If you don't then it could take longer to find a buyer and they will factor the cost of decorating into what they offer.

Get your garden ready

As we head further into spring, it might be time to bring out the garden furniture. Tidy away any plants which have caught the winter frost.

Clear any remaining winter debris – including build-up in the gutters – and tackle any essential repairs before you get distracted by weeding and mowing the lawn.  It may also be time to give your fences a touch-up.

Keeping your home in tip-top condition is also a good idea if you intend to sell soon.
